Kali Linux was released on the 13th March 2013 as a Debian-based Linux distro that comes with a set of pre-installed tools including Wireshark, Nmap, and Aircrack-ng to assist in information security (IS) tasks like penetration testing and ethical hacking. Kali Linux was developed by Offensive Security, a company specializing in delivering information security solutions.

Kali Linux sports timely information security updates, four well-known desktop environments, countless updates, and is also compatible with the ARM architecture. It is used by cybersecurity specialists, professional penetration testers, ethical hackers, and software developers who know how to use the OS.

Kali Linux toolkit offers multilingual support to allow individuals to operate it in their native language. It is developed in a secure environment, which means that only a few trusted users can interact with the OS’s code repositories. Moreover, it follows the Filesystem Hierarchy Standard (FHS) to discover files, libraries, etc. Last but not least, it is free to use, and its creators claim it will remain so.
